Marvin R. Burk, 81, of Columbus, passed from this life at 4:05 a.m. Thursday, July 28, 2016, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Mr. Burk was born October 17, 1934, in Greensburg, to Ruby Ray and Zola Edith Robbins Burk. He married Marilyn L. Thayer December 22, 1962. She preceded him in death August 15, 2015.

Mr. Burk was a 1953 graduate of Flat Rock High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959, stationed in Germany, and continued to serve in the U.S. Army Reserves until he was honorably discharged in April 1963.

Mr. Burk retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1994 after 32 years of service.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Columbus, Columbus Moose Lodge and Diesel Workers Union.

He enjoyed NASCAR racing, traveling and taking family vacations.

Survivors include his son, Randy (Nina) Burk of Elizabethtown; granddaughters, Claire Burk and Kaylee Barger of Columbus; a sister, Catherine Whitfield of Clinton; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Burk was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and sisters, Virginia Kitchen, Willa Lee Cochran, Dorothy Jean Burk and Donna J. Rose.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Patrick Galligar officiating.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday.

Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Full military rites will be presented by Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
