Swimmers earn medals

Club Olympia Swim Team, a new swimming club based in Columbus, sent seven swimmers to the 2016 Indiana SwimFest Long Course Championships, and those athletes recorded personal-best times in 30 of 31 events.

Rachel Sabotin finished second in the girls 13-14 high point standings. She won the 400-, 800- and 1,500-meter freestyle events and placed second in the 200 freestyle, 200 individual medley and 400 IM.

Sabotin qualified in three events for the Futures meet in Atlanta.

Nalanie Cortez took sixth in the girls 11-12 high point standings and was the top scorer among 11-year-olds. She finished second in the 200 IM, third in the 400 freestyle, fourth in the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle, fifth in the 50 freestyle and seventh in the 200 butterfly.

Olivia Morlok was 11th in the 13-14 girls high point standings.

She finished third in the 1,500 freestyle, fourth in the 800 freestyle, fifth in the 400 freestyle, sixth in the 200 freestyle, 10th in the 400 IM and 12th in the 200 butterfly.

In the 13-14 boys division, Nicholas Green placed sixth in the 400 freestyle, seventh in the 800 freestyle and 400 IM, 10th in the 200 freestyle and 11th in the 200 butterfly and 200 IM.

Brady Beyer finished sixth in the 200 breaststroke, seventh in the 50 breaststroke and was eighth in the 100 breaststroke in the 11-12 boys division.

Karlie Brown and Ayush Panda also competed for Club Olympia, which was started in April by Jennifer Brinegar.

Blazers win twice

Emily Rice scored two goals in the Blue Blazers’ 3-2 win against White Lighetening and two more in the Blazers’ 3-0 shutout of the Red Raiders Tuesday night.

Dane Bremer scored the other goal in each game for the Blazers. Todd Houchin had both goals for the Lightening.

In the week’s other game, White Lightening beat Red Raiders 3-1. Stephanie Pigneri netted two goals, and Tyler Houchin added one for the Lightening. Tom Kubat scored for the Raiders.

A week earlier, the Red Raiders beat the Blue Blazers 3-1 and the White Lightening 4-3.

Ricky Hooton, Brad Ramusivich and Devan Herron scored for the Raiders against the Blazers, while Greg Thomas had the Blazers goal.

The Blazers’ Ben Echkart netted two goals, and Hooton and Scott Herron each had one against the Lightening.

Tim Walton scored two goals, and Dave Dickenson added one for the Lightening.

In the week’s other game, White Lightening beat Blue Blazers 6-3. Tyler Houchin and Pigneri each scored twice, and Todd Houchin and Brent Gordon added single goals for the Lightening. Becca Reutell netted two goals, and Bremer had one for the Blazers.
