Accident backs up I-65 traffic

An accident involving two semitrailers on Interstate 65 in southern Bartholomew County backed up traffic for hours.

At about 7:04 p.m. Tuesday, Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a crash on southbound I-65 near the 61-mile marker — near Jonesville, according to a Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department news release.

The investigation indicated that a semitrailer driven by Austin Pounds, 26, of Odessa, Texas, struck the rear of the semitrailer driven by Lee Moore, 51, of College Park, Georgia. Neither driver was injured in the crash, the news release stated.

I-65 southbound was reduced to one lane from about 10 p.m. Tuesday to 12:50 a.m. Wednesday and was completely closed beginning at the 64-mile marker while special equipment was brought in to remove the semitrailers and debris from the roadway, the sheriff’s department said.

The Indiana State Police, Wayne Township Fire and Indiana Department of Transportation also assisted.
