Brian’s picks – August 11

Harry Wayne Casey basically sounds like he’s having the time of his life leading classic pop-rock ensemble KC and the Sunshine Band, which headlines the Columbus Area Arts Council’s Rock The Park concert at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at Mill Race Park on Fifth Street. He brings a 15-member group that he says is the life of the party for the outdoor, musical reminiscing. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the gate. Information and tickets: 812-376-2539 or artsincolumbus.org.

Autumn’s Dawn calls most of their music bluegrass, but I hear soothing pop or Celtic-oriented melodies when members perform. The trio headlines the free Donner Park Variety Show at 7 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Donner Park shelter house near 19th and Lafayette streets in Columbus. Also in the lineup are Charlie Moore, a singer specializing in the voices and material of Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard; pop singers Dan and Linda Mustard, who most recently entertained at the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic’s Lobsterfest; Dynamic Dick Hartung, a harmonica player who performs in Florida during the winter and in Brown County during the summer; and the Mill Race Center Readers performing “Silent Movie.”
