Drunk-driving enforcement campaign begins

Local law enforcement agencies will participate in the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign Friday through Sept. 5.

The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department and Columbus Police Department will join more than 250 state and local law enforcement agencies and thousands across the country in conducting high-visibility patrols to encourage motorists not to drink and drive.

Local sheriff’s deputies and police officers will conduct sobriety patrols and checkpoints around the clock.

“Ensuring drivers and their passengers are safe on the road is one of our key priorities,” said Capt. Brandon Slate of the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department.

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over is an annual enforcement effort supported by federal funding allocated to local law enforcement from the Traffic Safety Division of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.
