Alma Elizabeth Schwering, 96, of Westport, passed away at 5:05 a.m. Friday, August 12, 2016, at the Metcalfe Health Care Center in Edmonton, Kentucky. She was born December 24, 1919, in Decatur County, the daughter of Louis and Thersia (Menkedick) Moorman. She was raised in Decatur County and moved to Edmonton, Kentucky, with her daughter four years ago.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of St. John’s Ladies Auxiliary in Millhousen, Westport Senior Citizens Group and Columbia Afternoon Home Ec Club. Alma enjoyed crocheting, baking sugar cookies and playing euchre.

She married Edward Bernard Schwering October 10, 1945, in Millhousen, and he preceded her in death June 3, 1955.

Survivors include her daughters, Jan (Ron) Ervin of Edmonton, Kentucky, Margi (Roy) Reitman of Westport and Ruth (Don) Lucas of Columbus; her son, Raymond (Donna) Schwering of Westport; her brother, Carl Moorman of Millhousen; 17 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Louis Schwering; sisters, Stella Schilder, Mary Yeager, Lucille Braun, Martha Batta and Eileen Schebler; brothers, Lawrence, Ralph and Walter Moorman; and granddaughter, Nicki Schwering.

Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Millhousen with Father William Turner officiating. Burial will follow at St. Denis Cemetery. A Rosary service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 16, at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with visitation to follow from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m.
