Brian’s picks – August 18

Surely I am not the only one who, at some point through the years, secretly looked at the some of local architecture and its designers like they were exquisitely crafted wingtip shoes I would never afford or understand. I’m sorry I was that misguided. But artist David Lee Csicsko’s graphic profiles of noted architects of the face of Columbus, now on display at the Columbus Area Visitors Center, made me totally drop my guard and see them as real, down-to-earth sorts. Maybe it’s because Csicsko himself is so approachable. Maybe it’s because his pieces contain sly humor. Whatever it is, stop by the center at 506 Fifth St. and see if you agree.

OK, so maybe you missed the Columbus Symphony Orchestra Brass Ensemble at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fair or the recent BBQ Blues & Brew event. The ensemble is set for the Artist Spotlight Series On The Plaza at 7 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Bartholomew County Public Library Plaza, 536 Fifth St. Bring a chair — unless you figure its jazzy tunes will keep you on your feet.
