I-65 bridge, sign work to reduce travel lanes

The Indiana Department of Transportation will close a lane on I-65 near Columbus to repair signs and begin repairs on bridges near Taylorsville.

INDOT will close the northbound right lane of Interstate 65 near the 67-mile marker near the Columbus exit Monday morning. INDOT crews are scheduled to repair signs there between 6 and 10 a.m., although inclement weather could delay the repairs.

Also Monday, prep work will begin on four structures on the interstate near Taylorsville. RAM Construction is the state’s contractor for a $797,273 project to make repairs and install bridge deck overlays at the following Bartholomew County bridges:

Northbound I-65 over U.S. 31 at Taylorsville Exit 76

Southbound I-65 over U.S. 31 at Taylorsville Exit 76

Northbound I-65 over Louisville & Indiana Railroad tracks located 0.7 mile north of U.S. 31

Southbound I-65 over the Louisville & Indiana tracks

Overnight Wednesday and Thursday, crews are scheduled to begin repair operations at the bridges. This includes milling joints and patching deck pavement. Single lanes will be closed — weather permitting — at both southbound bridges between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

These nighttime closures for bridge repairs will continue the following week, Aug. 29 to 31 — requiring single-lane closures at northbound bridges over U.S. 31/Taylorsville and over the Louisville & Indiana Railroad tracks located 0.7 miles north of U.S. 31.

There will be more nighttime single-lane closures at the four I-65 bridge structures after Labor Day weekend.

Beginning Sept. 9, bridge deck overlays are scheduled to be installed. This will require weekend lane closures for as many as four weekends — starting at 9 p.m. Fridays and continuing through 6 a.m. Mondays. One I-65 lane will remain open in both directions at each bridge site at all times. There may be ramp closures during operations at Exit 76.
