A Michigan man was arrested after leading police on a chase that started on I-65 in Columbus and ended when the man crashed the motorcycle on a rural Bartholomew County road.
A 2005 Kawasaki motorcycle being operated by Kevin A. Demott, 24, of Lansing, Michigan, traveling southbound on I-65 near the 67-mile marker – just south of the main Columbus exit – was going in excess of 90 miles per hour, said Sgt. Stephen Wheeles of the Indiana State Police.
State trooper Korry Clark attempted to stop the motorcycle as Demott exited at the 64-mile marker for Walesboro, traveling westbound onto State Route 58, police said.
Demott then fled at a high rate of speed, traveling westbound from Ogilville onto county roads, police said, Demott lost control of the motorcycle on Grandview Drive as his vehicle slid off the roadway, causing him to fall off, police said.
Clark arrested Demott at 1:30 a.m. Monday, with the assistance of a Bartholomew County sheriff’s deputy, on charges of possession of a handgun by a serious violent felon, resisting law enforcement, operating while intoxicated and reckless driving.
