Visitors Center earns $2,000 prize

Indiana Landmarks is honoring the Columbus Area Visitors Center for its promotion and support of historic preservation.

The center will receive the Servaas Memorial Award, along with a $2,000 cash prize, at the Indiana Landmarks annual meeting Sept. 11 in Indianapolis.

The visitors center was honored for its efforts to train guides who shepherd visitors to Columbus’ architectural buildings, and for support for preservation projects.

Cindy Waddle, president of the Visitors Center Board of Directors, will accept the award at the meeting, said Karen Niverson, visitors center executive director.

Niverson said the money will be invested in the center’s grant program to continue promotional efforts for the city.
