Tony Whitaker, 58, of Columbus, died at 8:55 p.m. Thursday, September 1, 2016, at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Indianapolis.
Tony was born March 13, 1958, in Brown County, to Phillip D. and Martha Renfro Whitaker. He married Rhonda Ollestad and later married Dana Hanson Vinson Aug. 14, 2015.
From 1976-1980, Tony was in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Germany. He earned an associate degree from Ivy Tech and was a material handler at Cummins, Inc. for nearly 20 years. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his mother, Martha Whitaker of Gnaw Bone; wife, Dana; children, Bridget (Brandon) Roberts of Greenwood, Jessica ((Blake) Edwards of Hope and Joe Whitaker of Columbus; a granddaughter, Mika Roberts; brother, Stephen (Robin) Whitaker of Bloomington; sisters, Sherrie (Donnie) Williams of Brownstown, Merikay Whitaker of Gnaw Bone and Susan Whitaker O’Connor of Seymour; and several nieces and nephews.
Tony was preceded in death by his father, Phillip.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Wes Jones officiating. Family and friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday. Burial will be at Christiansburg Cemetery in Brown County. Full military honors will be presented by the U.S. Air Force Ceremonial Unit and the Brown County Veterans Honor Guard.
