Martin (Marty) VanderPan, 67, of Columbus, passed away at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at his home with his wife at his side.

He fought the battle of cancer with strength and courage and always maintained a positive attitude.

Marty was born November 10, 1948, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Neil and Mildred Martin VanderPan.

Marty retired after 37 years at UPS. His hobbies included guns, collecting a variety of things and spending time with his family. His greatest attribute was his ability to connect with children which made him an amazing Dad to many.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Reynolds VanderPan; sons, Scott and Jason VanderPan of Indianapolis and Jeremy VanderPan of French Lick; daughters, Victoria VanderPan of Fancy Gap, Virginia, Katherine (Chuck) Gerren of Washington, Indiana, Emma VanderPan of French Lick, and Jessica VanderPan of Columbus; stepdaughter, Amber Chytka of Columbus; brothers, John (Charlotte) VanderPan of Benbrook, Texas and Dennis (Joan) VanderPan of Grand Rapids, Michigan; sister, Katey VanderPan of MacClenny, Florida; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and long time friends, Pat and Angie Garcia.

Marty was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kyle VanderPan; and a granddaughter, Carlee Gerren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Randy Weddle officiating.

Family and friends may call from noon until service time Monday.

Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
