East students attending gubernatorial debate

Nearly 100 students from Columbus East High School will be attending Tuesday’s gubernatorial debate in Indianapolis.

Troy Buntin, who teaches six government classes at East, will be accompanying two busloads of his students to the debate, which will run from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Lawrence North High School.

Six other high schools will also participate: Arsenal Technical, Franklin Central High, Indian Creek, Shortridge, Lawrence Central and host Lawrence North.

The three candidates for governor of Indiana in Indiana’s Nov. 8 general election — Democrat John Gregg, Republican Eric Holcomb and Libertarian Rex Bell — will debate three times in events organized by the Indiana Debate Commission. Tuesday’s event is the first in the series.
