3-vehicle crash in front of farm market

A three-vehicle crash in front of a busy farm market east of Columbus tied up traffic, but the Saturday afternoon incident did not result in serious injuries.

The 1:43 p.m. accident occurred in front of Bush’s Market, 7301 E 25th St., according to a news release from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department.

It began after an eastbound pickup truck — driven by Terri Smith, 67, of Columbus — stopped in traffic in order to turn into Bush Creek Stables, the news release said.

While a sports utility vehicle behind Smith driven by Donna McDonley, 49, was slowing down, the Hartsville woman’s SUV was rear-ended by a third vehicle driven by Paul Matney, 69, of Petersville, the release said.

The impact pushed McDonley’s vehicle into Smith’s vehicle, while Matney’s vehicle went off the roadway and into a cornfield, the release said.

Although McDonley and Matney were treated for minor injuries at the scene, neither was taken to the hospital, the release stated.
