Jenny’s Picks – October 13

As the season ramps up, I think I need to de-stress. Yoga, Wine and Canvas, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Zen Fitness, 639 Washington St., seems like a particularly good way to do so. During the event, art teacher Elizabeth Smith will lead participants in building Van Gogh’s “Starry Night,” Columbus style. Wine, snacks, yoga and all paint supplies provided. Cost: $35 per person; reservations are required. Information: 812-552-5900 and myzenfitness.com.

Through the centuries, history has silenced the voices of women. Through reenactment, we get to hear one during “Mary Bateman Clark: Woman of Colour and Courage,” 3 p.m. Saturday at the Bartholomew County Public Library, 536 Fifth St. The event will feature narrative and reenactment by Eunice Brewer-Trotter and Ethel Brewer-McCane, who are great-great-great-granddaughters of Clark, a slave who sued her master for her freedom and won her precedent-setting case in 1821.
