Sound of North heading to semistate

The Sound of North marching band of Columbus North qualified for semistate competition after being named one of the top 10 bands at the Indiana State School Music Association regionals on Saturday.

The 161-member band, which performed its “Slither” show at Center Grove High School, will compete next Saturday at Ben Davis High School.

Keith Burton, assistant director of bands, said The Sound of North also won “with distinction” awards for music, visual and effect at Center Grove.

Next Saturday, the top 10 bands from North’s regional will compete with the top 10 from Saturday’s other regional in the hopes of reaching the top 10 at semistate.

Burton said the students were elated at their finish and were feeling good after rehearsals Thursday night, all day Friday and even Saturday before the regional competition.

“They earned it!” Burton said of the band’s efforts to make it to semistate.
