Brian’s picks – November 17

Anyone who titles a presentation “Your Lazy Way to … “ already has captured my attention. That’s either from sheer wiseacre humor or real, absolute curiosity, just in case slothfulness can earn me fitness, riches, intelligence and a grand life on the Riviera. But Columbus resident Jim Everroad is serious about “Your Lazy Way to Great Shape,” a free presentation slated 6 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Red Room of the Bartholomew County Public Library, 536 Fifth St. in Columbus. He will highlight low-intensity, simple movements that most can do to enhance health. Information: 812-379-1266 or mybcpl.org.

An online, shortened version of the partly jazzy, pop-rock Carl Ruitti “Organ Concerto” reminds me of a dramatic, suspenseful film score. The 2011 work that former Columbus organist Dan McKinley and Columbus Indiana Philharmonic Music Director David Bowden fell in love with will serve as a centerpiece for the Philharmonic concert 7:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at First Christian Church. There, McKinley, now a Massachussetts church organist, will renew his familiarity with First Christian’s heralded organ that he played for nearly 20 years. Tickets are $20 to $40 at the cip.org.
