It’s shaping up as a purple day

A lot of people are wearing purple today, recognized as World Prematurity Day, an event organized by the March of Dimes to raise awareness of pre-term birth and concerns of pr-term babies and their families worldwide.

Locally, the Robert R. Stewart Bridge will be lit in purple as the city of Columbus observes World Prematurity Day. Other structures around the world — including the Empire State Building in New York — will also be lit in purple tonight.

Premature birth is the leading cause of death for children under 5 across the world, according to the March of Dimes.
