Harlan Bergsieker Jr., 83, of Columbus, died at 3:47 p.m. January 5, 2017, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Harlan was born September 24, 1933, on his family farm in Jackson County, the son of Harlan and Gertrude (Mellencamp) Bergsieker Sr. He married Norma Brittin June 23, 1956, 61 years ago, in Fort Wayne.

He graduated from Shields High School in Seymour and, in 1955, Ball State Teacher, with a degree in business. Harlan was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Harlan was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor John Armstrong officiating. Calling hours will be from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Jonesville.

Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church through the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Norma; son, Ed (Shirley) Bergsieker of Columbus; daughters, Greta Bergsieker of Cicero and Gail (Andrew) Wurtz of Carmel; and grandchildren, Sarah (Frank Jamerson) Bergsieker, Rachel Bergsieker, Alexander Wurtz and Madeline Wurtz.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Ethan Wurtz.
