Gala fundraiser benefits Our Hospice of South Central Indiana

If the theme of “Boot Scootin’ Ball” is a clue, the 19th annual Our Hospice of Jennings County Gala should be a lively event.

Western wear is encouraged for the event at 6 p.m. Jan. 28 at St. Mary’s Church, 212 Washington St. in North Vernon. The gala will include an evening of music, dinner, dancing, a live auction and the queen crowning.

“We are excited for this year’s western-themed Gala Benefit and we hope the community will join us for a fun evening as we raise awareness and funds to care for those dealing with a life-threatening illness,” said Laura Hurt, president of Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Located in North Vernon, Our Hospice of Jennings County is a part of the not-for-profit organization Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, which administers care for terminally ill patients in Jennings County and 14 other Hoosier counties.

For nearly two decades, the annual gala event has raised funds to benefit Jennings County patients who have a life-ending illness and are under the care of Our Hospice of Jennings County. Last year’s event raised more than $67,000 in gross revenue.

The event is expected to sell out, so people should buy tickets early, said Sandy Downs, patient care manager at Our Hospice of Jennings County. The deadline to buy tickets is Jan. 26.

First Class Catering of Columbus will cater the dinner, and Joe Willy’s of Columbus will serve the beverages. Gene Rudicel will serve as master of ceremonies for the evening, and D.J Jeff Downs will keep the music going. Auctioneer Tom Lawson will call the auction and 2016 Miss Indiana Morgan Abel will be in attendance to add a little dazzle.

Six Jennings County High School girls who are working to raise money for Our Hospice of Jennings County will compete for the title of queen. The winner will be the one who receives the most donations. The queen candidates are: Macey Bennett, Hope Ferguson, Eliza Gasper, Page Magner, Hollee Sons and Brittany Thill.
