Local man accused of battery, recklessness

A local man is in jail on multiple charges related to incidents that left several people injured.

Steven Richards, 33, 725 Pearl St., is being held without bond in the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of:

  • Battery
  • Criminal recklessness
  • Failure to stop following an accident

At about 8:21 p.m. Monday, Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Deputy Adam Warner was dispatched to a reported battery in the 1400 block of Tellman Road. Upon arrival, he found a female and a juvenile male who had been run over by a vehicle.

The suspect, identified as Richards, also is accused of physically assaulting two other adults and one female, who is a minor, deputies said.

The victims told Warner that Richards became irate when they tried to stop him from driving his vehicle while intoxicated, deputies said.

Sgt. Gary Knoef and Deputy Jon Lanning located Richards at his home where he was arrested, deputies said.

One female and two minors were treated and released at Columbus Regional Hospital. Two adults refused treatment at the scene.
