Judith Ann “Judy” Jewell, 76, of Columbus, died at 12:53 a.m. February 8, 2017, at Kindred Transitional Care Center.
Judy was born Aug. 17, 1940, in Terre Haute, Indiana, the daughter of Loren B. and Gertrude I. Hurst Downey. She graduated from Frankfort Pilgrim High School in 1958.
She was previously employed at Arvin Industries and Champus before retiring from Columbus Regional Hospital Cancer Center in 2010.
Judy was a member of Flintwood Wesleyan Church where her church family was very important to her. She sang with the choir and helped with summer church camps and community outreach activities.
Judy loved pursing her education and took many classes at both IUPUC and Ivy Tech.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at Flintwood Wesleyan Church with Pastor Wes Jones officiating. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Flintwood Wesleyan Building Fund or the Bartholomew County Humane Society through the funeral home.
Survivors include her daughter, Diane (Milo) Smith of Columbus; daughter-in-law, Donna Jewell of Elizabethtown; grandchildren, Lauren and Abby Smith, Cortney (Joey) Jewell-Caplinger, Gage (Tiffany) Jewell and Tyffani and Wesley Jewell; and great-grandchildren, Tanner and Addison Jewell, Naomi and Calvin Clark, and Kennedy Ford.
She was preceded in death by her children, Keith Jewell and Mindie Jewell; and a sister, Vicki Downey.
