Susan Macey

Oregon

Susan Rose Hurt Macey, 57, of Portland, Oregon, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 24, 2017, at the end of a long, courageous battle with breast cancer.

Born and raised in Indiana, she attended Brown County High School and Ivy Tech Community College. She raised her son and daughter in Indiana and, in her latter years, met and fell in love with Jeffrey Macey of Portland, whom she would marry. She and her husband explored the country together on numerous once-in-a-lifetime trips.

Susan was well-loved and known to be loyal and kind to all, including any animal.

She embraced life, relished the outdoors and hiking, loved her judge shows on daytime television and was a friend to all. She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey; her son, Jacob Trotter; daughter-in-law, Carrie, and their two children, Bryce and Abigayle; her daughter, Aubrey; and her son, Braydon.

Additional family members include her stepchildren, Jeff and Debbie Macey, as well as her mother, Helene, and her four siblings, Wally Hurt of Poulsbo, Washington, Gaylene Watt of Indianapolis, Indiana, Lynn Clapp of Gresham, Oregon, and Gregg Hurt of Phoenix, Arizona—and their families, who say, “She was the best of us.”

She was preceded in death by her father, Wallace Gayle Hurt.

A memorial service was held Jan. 28 in Oregon and another celebration of life will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, from 3 to 6 p.m. at The Living Room Church, 1412 Sycamore St., Columbus, Indiana 47201.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
