CANstruction ahead

United Way of Bartholomew County and FairOaks Mall will host the Art Walk for Hunger as part of the ninth annual CANstruction competition at FairOaks Mall, which opens this weekend.

The Art Walk for Hunger will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday. CANstruction team representatives will attend to collect canned donations as votes for the 2017 People’s Choice Award and answer questions about their structures. Local food bank representatives will also be available to answer questions about hunger needs in Bartholomew County.

Last year’s CANstruction competition generated more 30,000 cans of food for local food banks in Bartholomew County.

CANstruction is an international design and engineering competition where local teams construct large structures completely out of canned food. After the competition, the cans are donated to the Love Chapel, Salvation Army and Community Center of Hope food banks.
