Brian’s picks – February 16

Anyone doubting the power of young people and the impact of their being taken seriously in Bartholomew County need look no further than Dance Marathon 2017, a time of music, dancing and food for a future of better and healthier relationships throughout south central Indiana. The Feb. 24 and 25 overnight event at Central Middle School, chaired and driven by local high schoolers with help from adults, regularly raises six figures of funds to help the local Turning Point Domestic Violence Services do its job. Cost: $20 donation minimum.

From the preview I caught of the movie “Paterson,” Columbus native and Broadway/TV/film actress Chasten Harmon seems a natural for the big screen, although I have to acknowledge I never quite pictured her as a barfly as she is in this flick now playing at YES Cinema, Fourth and Jackson streets in downtown Columbus. The movie plays at 6:30 p.m. today and may be stretched beyond that date. Tickets: $6 for adults and $4 for children.
