Alta Marie Morris, 84, of Columbus died at 6:50 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis.

Alta was born on the family farm Oct. 20, 1932, in Jennings County, the daughter of Charles W. “Bus” and Gertrude M. Hammond Dillman. She married Albert H. Morris Aug. 31, l952, in Columbus; he preceded her in death Nov. 11, 2009.

She was a nurse’s aide at Columbus Regional Hospital, where she worked as secretary of the recovery room. She was a graduate of Huffer Beauty School. She was a former longtime member of Azalia Friends Meeting and a current member of First Christian Church. She was a member of the 3M Class, Women’s Circle and Teacher’s Resource Center of First Christian. Member of Home Demonstration Club of Azalia and Columbus Grange. Alta loved to travel with her husband, and was an avid card player and loved crossword puzzles.

She is survived by sons, Philip (Carol) Morris of Owensboro, Kentucky, and Brian (Karen) Morris of Carmel; brother, Allen (Harriett) Dillman of Elizabethtown; grandchildren, Erin (Joseph) Jones, Kevin, Zach, Christian and Evan Morris; great-grandson, Parker Jones.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with Dan Wallace and Milo Smith officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday. Burial at Garland Brook Cemetery.
