Brian’s picks – February 23

My family on my mother’s side was heavily into Fat Tuesday celebrations, given that they lived in the New Orleans area that also goes crazy with Mardi Gras. Petersville United Methodist Church offers its own form of pre-Lenten celebration with a Fat Tuesday Meal from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church, 2781 N. County Road 500E in Petersville. The menu includes pancakes, sausage and gravy, biscuits, scrambled eggs, fruit, jellies, coffee, juice and milk. Proceeds go toward a planned mission trip to Uganda. Cost: $7; children under 5 eat free. Information: 574-780-2379 or 812-603-8378.

I am a rare drinker. But I believe enough in Developmental Services Inc.’s mission with the disabled that I’d be willing to go and just have a little food to support DSI’s D-Vine Wine and Beer Fest from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. March 4 at The Commons, 300 Washington St. in Columbus. The gathering also includes a few distilleries. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. All guests must be 21 or older to attend. Tickets can be purchased on line at dsiservices.org or at DSI, 2920 10th St., Columbus.
