North trio, Hauser player make All-State squads

INDIANAPOLIS — Maliah Howard-Bass, who led the Columbus North girls to a regional title, has been selected to this year’s Indiana Basketball Coaches Association “Supreme 15” All-State team.

North senior Imani Guy made the Senior Large School All-State team for Class 3A and 4A girls. Hauser’s Tori Chandler, an exchange student from Australia, made the Underclass Small School All-State team for Class A and 2A girls.

Another North senior, Ashlyn Huffman, and Jennings County senior Sidney Gerkin are Senior All-State honorable-mention selections.

North boys win five events in indoor season opener

BLOOMINGTON — Mitchell Burton won the long jump (22 feet, 4½ inches) and the 60 meters (7.18 seconds) to lead the Columbus North boys track team in Wednesday’s Bloomington South Indoor Invitational at Indiana University.

Also for the Bull Dogs, Elijah Brooks took the 3,200 (9:58.06). Burton, Cortez Bandy, J.D. Harris and Triston Perry captured the 4×200 relay (1:34:01); and Alec Embry, Justin Spoon, Sam Horak and Joel Carroll won the 4×800 relay (8:44.04).

Finishing second for North were Brigham Kleinhenz in the pole vault (12-6), Coleman Tennyson in the shot put (48-11½) and Perry in the 60 hurdles (8.40). Bandy took third in the 60 (7.31) and fourth in the long jump (19-8½), and Harley Huser was fourth in the high jump (5-10).

For the girls, Maura VanDeventer won the 60 hurdles (9.83) and finished second in the long jump (15-4½). Rachel Brougher took second (11:56.17) and Ana Singhal fourth (12:12.21) in the 3,200. Jahna Smiley was fourth in the high jump (4-10).

Also for the Bull Dogs, Brougher, Chelsi Giesige, Singhal and Arig Tong finished second in the distance medley relay (13:45.99). Tong, Kirsten Ballard, Lily Dozier and Sydney Geckler took third in the 4×800 relay (10:36.78), and Katlin Meek, Kammy Salo, Roxana Mendoza, Sophie Bailey were fourth in the 4×400 relay (4:39.46).

Brown County’s Maddy Fields won the pole vault (10-0).

Columbus Christian advances to Final Four

DAYTON, Tenn. — The Columbus Christian boys basketball team advanced to the national tournament semifinal round after beating Lancaster Christian Academy 55-40.

Blake Barker knocked down four 3-pointers on his way to tying a team high of 21 points with Logan Roth. Kyle Marsh added 10 points to help Columbus Christian advance to the national final four to play against Louisiana Christian today at 11:15 a.m.
