James Wayne Mahoney, 80, of Ellettsville, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017, at IU Health Bloomington Hospice House. He was born on March 15, 1936, in South Bend, Indiana, the son of Wayne Robert and Wilma Hazel (Martin) Mahoney.

Jim met his wife, Beryl, in 1957, while stationed with the United States Air Force in England. They married in June of that year at St. James Church in Bermondsey, London, England and they shared 59 years of marriage. Jim retired to Branson, Missouri after his tenure at Indiana Bell Telephone Company, before coming back to Ellettsville. He was a life member of Bloomington Moose Lodge and volunteered extensively with his wife, Beryl. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, Cubs baseball, NASCAR and dancing with wife.

Jim is survived by his wife, Beryl Mahoney of Ellettsville; sons, Wayne W. (Henrietta) Mahoney of South Bend, James F. (Julie) Mahoney of Bloomington, Fredrick R. (Edith) Mahoney of Columbus and Phillip C. (Loretta) Mahoney of Columbus; grandchildren, Scott (Tasha) Mahoney of Smithville and Kayla (Jake) Schultz of Columbus; one great-granddaughter, Jade; along with several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, William M. Mahoney of Mishawaka and Richard T. Mahoney of Sedona, Arizona; brother-in-law, Fredrick (Patsy) Tyler of England; and sister-in-law, June Brookshire of California.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Fredrick and Gladys Tyler of London, England; and great-grandson, Landon.

Jim’s family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, and aids at IU Health Hospice House for their outstanding care of Jim.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 S. Old State Road 37, Bloomington. Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
