United Way of Bartholomew County is recruiting volunteers for its third annual Day of Caring May 5.

Day of Caring is a full-day volunteer event where local businesses and community members are connected with non-profit and residential volunteer projects in the county.

More than 1,000 volunteers took part last year, putting in a combined 4,000 volunteer hours and completing 106 projects worth an estimated $92,000 for the community.

This year there are hundreds of volunteer opportunities waiting to be filled, from planting flowers, mulching and painting to organizing donations, making small home repairs and more.

The community is invited to help in Day of Caring and those interested should register by contacting volunteer coordinator Amanda Hummer at ahummer@uwbarthco.org or 812-314-2706.
