Dragons top Bull Dogs

SELLERSBURG — Columbus North jumped out in front with a run in the first inning Wednesday, but it was all Silver Creek from there in a 17-1 Dragons victory.

Brooke Bruin led off the first with a walk, went to second on a sacrifice by Charisma Burroughs and scored on a two-out single by Bailey Lofton.

“The first inning, we converted like we wanted to,” North coach Ron McDonald said. “Bailey swung the bat really well tonight.”

The Bull Dogs (0-3), who already were missing top pitcher Madisyn Prince because of a knee injury, were without Haylee Medve on Wednesday after she injured her back.

“We only have four or five kids that are hitting right now,” McDonald said. “We are so far out of whack right now with positions in the field with another one going out with and injury tonight.”

South Decatur drops opener

KNIGHTSTOWN — Knightstown pounded out 16 hits in handing South Decatur a 17-3 season-opening loss.

The Cougars managed three hits, including a double by Brooke Helms.

GREENSBURG — Hunter Seegers smacked a two-run homer, but it wasn’t enough in South Decatur’s 10-3 season-opening loss to Knightstown.

Seegers, who started on the mound and took the loss, had both of the hits for the Cougars. He went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
