Lancers down Eagles

NASHVILLE — Edinburgh scored four times in the sixth inning Thursday to break open a tie game and went on to hand Brown County a 9-4 season-opening loss.

Gabe Wilson went 3 for 4, and Zach Murphy went 3 for 5 with a double and three RBIs to lead the Lancers’ 11-hit attack. Zach Giles and Tavian Cosby each added added two RBIs. Kyle Armel allowed three runs (two earned) and four hits in five innings to pick up the win.

Grant Suding went 2 for 4 with a double for the Eagles. Bryce Walker went 2 for 4 with three RBIs.

Edinburgh (1-0) was playing for the first time since its game at Trinity Lutheran on Monday was suspended in the sixth inning. The game will be resumed today.

Cougars fall to Braves

BROWNSTOWN —South Decatur led 4-3 going to the bottom of the fifth, but Brownstown Central scored eight times in the fifth and three more in the sixth to post a 14-4, six-inning win.

Hunter Seegers homered for the second time in as many games, but the Cougars (0-2) managed only one other hit.

SOFTBALL

Panthers blank Braves

NORTH VERNON — Amanda Bonesteel and Page Magner combined on a five-inning one-hitter to lead Jennings County to a season-opening 11-0 win against Brownstown Central.

Tesla Kopitzke went 3 for 4 with two RBIs; and Bonesteel went 2 for 3 with a double, a triple and two RBIs to lead the Panthers’ 13-hit attack. Sidney Gerkin went 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

Bonesteel gave up a hit to the Braves leading off the game, but then did not allow another hit over four innings. Magner pitched a perfect fifth

Trinity tops South Decatur

SEYMOUR — Trinity Lutheran scored seven times in the first inning and went on to hand South Decatur a 12-2, six-inning loss.

Jaryn Holtsclaw had three hits for Trinity (1-0), while Amanda Wright, Kirstin Hoene, Vidalis Montanez, Sophia Stahl and Taylor Russell all had two. Stahl had three RBIs, while Morgan Gabbard and Wright each had two. Wright and Stahl smacked home runs.

Trinity outhit South Decatur (0-2) 16-4.
