Brian’s picks – April 6

I have talked to a few local musicians who have seen fingerstyle guitarist Richard Smith. Yet, his humility may be even greater than his talent. Smith, who will perform at 7 p.m. Friday at the local Harlequin Theatre inside FairOaks Mall for the umpteenth time, is the world-class performer who apologized to Harlequin operator Robert Hay-Smith after a show for enjoying himself so much that he stretched one show to more than two hours. Tickets for all shows are $15 in advance at the venue, and $20 at the door. Student tickets are $10 at the door. Information: 812-343-4597 or theharlequintheatre.com.

Even if I were not the spouse of a professional flautist, I would love Columbus Indiana Philharmonic principal flutist Kathy Dell’s music that I have enjoyed at a range of performances over 30 years. She will be the featured performer at The Notables’ Musical Tea Party from 2:30 to 4 p.m. April 11 in the Laws Room at First Presbyterian Church, 512 Seventh St. in Columbus. Cost is $20 per person. People should bring their own tea cup or mug. Information: 812-376-2638 or thecip.org.
