Brian’s picks – April 13

Maybe the only thing hotter, figuratively and literally, than that dessert-oriented coffee addiction is the hole it’s burning in your pocket of cash. Well, if you’re in junior high or high school, drink to this: Do it yourself for a fraction of the cost. A free “Eat For Cheap” step-by-step presentation from 3 to 5 p.m. April 24 in the Red Room of the Bartholomew County Public Library, 536 Fifth St., Columbus, proposes how to wave a coffee wand of sorts and make you the best of baristas when it comes to frappunccinos. All supplies are provided free, which should give participants a nice jolt. Information and registration: 812-379-1266 or mybcpl.org.

The struggles of growing older can be at least a bit funny when viewed through characters played by Alan Arkin, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman in the new comedy, “Going In Style,” playing at the local, nonprofit YES Cinema, Fourth and Jackson streets in downtown Columbus. When they stoop so low for dog food for supper, they get an appetite for bank robbing. Tickets are $4 before 6 p.m. and $6 afterward (and $4 for children ages 3 to 12). Information: yescinema.org.
