Rumble stripes being installed on State Road 9

Work is underway on State Road 9 in Bartholomew County to install rumble stripes.

Gridlock Traffic Systems of Indianapolis is doing the installation on the highway from south of Sunland Road to the Shelby County line north of Hope, the Indiana Department of Transportation said.

The work began Wednesday and will continue during the next 30 to 45 days, INDOT said. The project is estimated to cost $241,200.

Rumble stripes alert motorists when they cross lanes by generating vibration and rumbling or humming sounds vehicles drift out of a lane of traffic. INDOT says installing the rumble stripes reduce cross-lane collisions across a center line and reduce off-road crashes.
