Betty J. Burns, 91, of Columbus, died Sunday, March 19, 2017.

Betty had a love for animals, especially horses, dogs and cats. She also enjoyed music, ballet and watching classic movies. But above all, she found joy in helping others, especially those less fortunate than she.

She was a former employee of Cummins, US Products, Irwin Union Bank & Trust and Columbus Bank.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joshua Francis and Minnie Elizabeth (Ping) Burns; brothers, Robert and Joseph Burns; sister, Mary Burns-Jacobs; brother-in-law, Meredith O. “Jake” Jacobs; and sister-in-law, Rebekah Burns.

Survivors include her nieces, Jane Hoffmeister-Repp and Elizabeth Reeves; nephews, Tom Burns, Jeffery Burns, Stephen Burns, Scott Burns, Howard Burns and Joseph Burns; nine great-nieces and great-nephews; 11 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and a sister-in-law, Mary Burns.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 23, 2017, at First Presbyterian Church, 512 Seventh St., Columbus, with the Rev. Felipe N. Martínez officiating. The family will receive friends in the Laws Room following the service.
