Safely dispose of old medications at event

Indiana State Police and a Jennings County fire station are participating in an annual, nationwide drug take-back event that encourages Hoosiers to safely dispose of old medicines.

People can drop off unwanted and unused drugs between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the North Vernon Fire Department, 2000 N. Madison Ave., North Vernon.

Indiana State Police will partner with the Drug Enforcement Administration to sponsor the 13th annual Prescription Drug Take Back initiative Saturday.

Collection sites are being set up at Indiana State Police posts, including the Versailles post, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, with the exception of the Indiana Toll Road ISP location. The post in Versailles is located at 902 S. Adams St.

Expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs in liquid and pill form will be disposed of without threat to the environment. Needles, new or used, cannot be accepted for disposal. The service is free and anonymous with no questions asked.
