Judith Lynne Russell, 69, of Lafayette, formerly of Decatur, Illinois, passed away at 4:02 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2017, at her home.

She was born March 25, 1948, in Decatur, Illinois, to the late William C. and Thelma M. (Shobe) Gillespie. She was a 1966 graduate of Lakeview High School in Decatur. She married Wayne A. Russell Sr. on Dec. 29, 1967, in Decatur, Illinois. He survives. Judith and Wayne relocated to Lafayette from Decatur with the A.E. Staley company in 1979. She was employed by Purdue University for 29 years, working her way up from clerk to the administrative assistant for the dean of engineering. She retired from Purdue in 2010.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Beta Sigma Phi and the Great Banquet of Lafayette. She enjoyed reading, visiting with friends, volunteering for her church, Lafayette Urban Ministry and the Great Banquet. She was very family oriented and thought often about her family living in Decatur, Illinois.

Along with her husband, she is survived by a son, Alan (Katherine) Russell; a daughter, Jennifer L Russell Combest (Stuart Davey); grandson, Benjamin Russell; step-grandson, Dawson Combest; niece, Amanda L. Albritton; two great-nephews, Logan and Holden Albritton; and great-niece, Caroline Albritton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Sharon Dunham.

Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, April 28, 2017, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1005 N. 21st St., Lafayette, with Pastor Dave Doane officiating. Interment will follow at Meadow View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Judith’s name may be given to the American Red Cross or to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Youth Group to assist with their upcoming Houston trip.
