Ona Jewell Bowers, 77, of Hope, formerly of Flat Rock, died at 2:38 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
She was a homemaker most of her life.
Jewell was a member of Dowell Hill church of Christ.
She loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening and chickens.
Born on Jan. 15, 1940, in Monroe County, Kentucky, Jewell was the daughter of Hermon K. and Gracie Ellen Fox Proffitt. She married Joe C. Bowers on Jan. 19, 1958, in Edinburgh, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 22, 2003.
Survivors include children, Calvin Lee (Ronitta) Bowers of Flat Rock, Robert Dale (Debbie) Bowers of Freetown, Sue Ellen Bowers of Hope and Lisa Kay Bowers of Noblesville; grandchildren, Annie Elizabeth Bowers of Dayton, Ohio, Charles Wesley Bowers of Flat Rock, Robert Levi (Brooke) Bowers and Caleb Dale Bowers, both of Columbus, Joseph Daniel (Alyssa) Green of Chicago, Justin David (Krista) Green of Shelbyville, Jeffrey Duane Green of Columbus, Kalissa Michelle Brown and Jacob Allen Brown, both of Noblesville; eight great-grandchildren; and sisters, Donna Parsley and Pauline Engles, both of Columbus.
Jewell was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brothers, Lonnie, Lamon, Lawrence and Leonard.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Norman Funeral Home with Brother Ron Scott and Brother Keenin Robinson officiating. Viewing will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.
