Asleep at the wheel in the middle of the road: Local man arrested on drug-related charges

A local man was arrested on drug-related charges after Columbus police officers located his vehicle sitting in the middle of the road.

At about 1:20 a.m. Friday, Columbus Police Officer Matt Prendergast was sent to the 2300 block of Keller Avenue about the vehicle and found Robert EB Copas, 45, asleep in the driver’s seat.

When the officer asked Copas to step out of the truck, a glass pipe fell to the ground, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman. After Copas was arrested and being searched at the jail, officers found a small bag of methamphetamine Copas had concealed in his clothing, Harris said.

Copas was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia, Harris said.
