Man wanted on warrant caught in chase

A local man was arrested after he ran from a Columbus police officer who was trying to arrest him on a warrant.

Michael F. Childers, 25, of 1314 Lafayette Ave., was arrested on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement and the warrant at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Officer Matt Prendergast saw a vehicle with no tail lights in the 1900 block of Gilmore Street and spoke to the driver, later identified as Childers, Harris said.

After Prendergast confirmed Childers was wanted on the warrant, Childers ran, jumping over a fence and through several yards before he was caught in the 1800 block of Gilmore Street, Harris said.

Childers is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $55,000 bond, jail officials said.
