County Road 200S crossing closed

A rail-replacement and crossing-repair project along the Louisville & Indiana Railroad line has resulted in the railroad crossing at County Road 200S.

That rail-crossing closing began Friday morning and was to stretch over four days.

City officials asked motorists to avoid the area through Monday, and to particularly avoid using Spear Street unless you live in the area or are traveling to Southside Elementary School. The Spear Street crossing is the alternative route to access homes and businesses in the area while the County Road 200S railroad crossing is upgraded.

The Louisville & Indiana Railroad and CSX Railroad are upgrading all rail line between Seymour and Indianapolis. Work in Bartholomew County began the weekend of April 22 and was expected to affect crossings in the city of Columbus by late May or early June.
