Crusaders trounce Tigers

CROTHERSVILLE — Columbus Christian scored 20 times in the first inning Monday and went on to post a 33-15, five-inning win at Crothersville.

Savannah Spurgeon threw a four-hitter in picking up the victory for the Crusaders (2-3). She also went 2 for 5 with five RBIs at the plate.

East drops tourney opener

JEFFERSONVILLE — Columbus East was held to three hits in 3-1 loss to Jeffersonville in the first round of the Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament.

Becca Carter had a double for the Olympians (12-8).

East will play at New Albany in the consolation round Wednesday.

Panthers beat New Albany

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County broke open a close game by scoring five times in the fifth to pull away for a 7-1 win against New Albany in the first round of the HHC Tournament.

Sidney Gerkin went 3 for 4 with a double for the Panthers (13-4). Mackenzie Byram and Madi Skinner each went 2 for 3, and Gabby Mahoney threw a five-hitter.

Jennings will host Jeffersonville in the semifinals Wednesday.

Braves top Bull Dogs

BROWNSTOWN — Columbus North outhit Brownstown Central 5-3, but the Braves took advantage of six Bull Dog errors in a 6-1 win.

Madisyn Prince threw a three-hitter for the Bull Dogs (1-18). Bailey Lofton and Sierra Norman each had a double.

Spartans slip past Cougars

SHELBYVILLE — Southwestern (Shelby) pushed across a run in the bottom of the eighth to claim a 3-2 Mid-Hooiser Conference win against South Decatur.

Annie Gant went 2 for 4 with two RBIs for the Cougars (4-14, 2-4). Brooke Helms went 2 for 4.

Trinity tops Scottsburg

SEYMOUR — Trinity Lutheran scored seven times in the second inning and went on to post a 16-6, six-inning win against Scottsburg.

Amanda Wright had a double, a home run and four RBIs for the Cougars (10-4). Winning pitcher Morgan Gabbard had two hits, and Vidalis Montanez and Jodi Goecker each had two RBIs.

East falls to Madison

MADISON — Columbus East ran into a sizzling Madison team and lost 149-168 at Sunrise.

Thomas Ruch led the Olympians with a 39. Derek Alexander added a 41, Adrian Adams and Nathan Cesarski each shot 44; Evan Weineke, Daniel Kuhlman and Mark Mayhew all shot 45, and Ryan Singer had a 47.

Jets win tri match

EDINBURGH — Justin Compton carded a 40 to lead Hauser to a tri-match win at Timbergate. The Jets finished with a 187 to 194 for North Decatur and 228 for host Edinburgh.

Owen Green added a 45 for Hauser. Matt Sweet shot 49 and Nick Neafus had a 53.

Panthers down Batesville

NORTH VERNON — Austin Roscoe and Bryce Kirchner each shot 43 to lead Jennings County to a 178-185 win against Batesville at St. Annes.

Adam Leach carded a 44 for the Panthers. He was followed by Hunter Conrad with a 48, Samson Miller 53, Joe Kelly 54, Keegan Beal 60 and Connor Cook 62.

Eagles topple Cougars

NASHVILLE — Parker VanNess won medalist honors with a 40 to lead Brown County to a 189-252 against South Decatur at Salt Creek.

Dawson Dunnuck carded a 44 for the Eagles. Peyton Proctor added a 48, Tyler Poling shot 57, Brendon Asher had a 61 and Rex Waters finished with a 62.

Jake Vannatta led the Cougars with a 45. Nick Bales carded a 49, Eli Watkins added a 77, Justice Burton shot 81 and Cole Nugent had 85.

Trinity bests Brownstown

BROWNSTOWN — Drew Royalty and Skylar Stahl tied for medalist honors with 38s and Trinity Lutheran set a nine-hole school record in a 157-196 win against Brownstown Central at Hickory Hills.

Jonathon Keith carded a 40 for the Cougars. Chad Stuckwisch added a 41, Cory Stuckwisch shot 45, Jacob Keith had a 46 and Kohei Nagano finished with a 47.

Red Devils nip Panthers

NORTH VERNON — Jeffersonville pulled out a pair of three-set wins to claim a 3-2 victory at Jennings County in the first round of the HHC Tournament.

Avis McGovern beat Alayna Lacey 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles for the Panthers (7-5). Callie Wilder and Abigail DeCamp downed Kellie Wunsch and Olivia Bischof 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Jennings’ Rebecca Driver fell to Kate Henderson 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and Hailey Brown lost to Emma Ellis 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Maddy Hill and Ellie Hearne fell to Ally Ward and Katie Gernard 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.

Twisters edge Eagles

NASHVILLE — Oldenburg Academy claimed a three-set win at No. 1 doubles to pull out a 3-2 victory at Brown County.

Elisabeth Huls beat Margaret Glaser 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles for the Eagles (5-5). Sarah Barrick and Maria Villalon downed Sarah Price and Claire Hollingsworth 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Brown County’s Hallee Miller fell to Angela Wansfrath 6-0, 7-6 (2) at No. 1 singles, and Baelyn Koster lost to Kathryn Wilder 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Vanessa Hoskins and Jacey Ferguson fell to Hanna Hurm and Sarah Preston 0-6, 6-2, 7-5 at No. 1 doubles.

Allie Schooler beat Jenna Kuntz 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles for the Lancers. Sydney Schlotter fell to Abby Sweet 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, Haley Jones lost to Vanessa Smith 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, Hannah Gosman and Sophia Parmer fell to Brenna Jackson and Morgan Brockman 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles and Molly Bowker and Heather Jones lost to Hailey Bowman and Talice Relleke 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Eagles blank Cougars

GREENWOOD — Grant Suding and Trey Gault combined on a three-hitter to lead Brown County to an 8-0 win at Greenwood Christian Academy.

Suding, who pitched 6 2/3 innings, also went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for the Eagles (5-14). Noah Ryan went 2 for 4, and Bryce Walker had a double and two RBIs.

Lions shut out Lancers

RUSHVILLE — Edinburgh was held to three hits in a 10-0, five-inning loss at Rushville.

Zach Murphy took the loss for the Lancers (6-10).
