School district upgrades special-needs bus

The Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. has purchased a special-needs bus that will replace an existing one in its fleet.

The school board on Monday approved the purchase of a 2010 Bluebird bus that will seat 42 people from Human Service Inc. Head Start for $20,000. The bus will replace one of its 14 buses designated for special-needs students, said Karen Wetherald, BCSC transportation manager.

The bus, which has 19,000 miles on it, will come equipped with air conditioning and an installed lift. It was appraised by Kerlin Bus Sales & Leasing Inc. for $33,300.

“It’s an excellent purchase for us,” Wetherald said.

The district purchased a new special-needs bus in February 2016 for $131,926.
