Marquette honors Columbus native with awards

Columbus native Morgan Proffitt won a pair of honors at Marquette’s Blue and Golden Globe Awards.

The senior soccer player from Columbus North won the Leadership Through Athletics Excellence Award and the President’s Award. Proffitt was a three-time All-BIG EAST Conference player, a two-time NSCAA All-Region selection and was the 2016 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year.

Proffitt currently is playing with the Chicago Red Stars of the National Women’s Soccer League.

Golfer named to Academic All-MAC squad

Ball State’s Sydney Anderson has been named to this year’s Academic All-MAC women’s golf team.

The sophomore from Columbus North carries a 3.341 GPA as a pre-psychology major. She finished this season with three top-10 and four top-20 finishes and a 78.73 scoring average.

Former Bull Dog helps Louisville to 11-game win streak

Devin Mann hit home runs on Friday and Saturday and had two hits and two runs scored on Sunday to help second-ranked Louisville to a three-game sweep at Notre Dame.

The sophomore second baseman from Columbus North batted .405 with three homers, 11 RBIs and 16 runs during an 11-game winning streak that the Cardinals (42-6) took into Tuesday night’s game against Vanderbilt. He is batting .279 with seven homers and 36 RBIs.
