Council tables Abbey Place subdivision request

Columbus City Council will reconsider an annexation and rezoning request on June 6 from a developer seeking to build about 300 homes north of Columbus.

The council tabled the developer’s request Tuesday for the 151 acres that Arbor Investments hopes to develop into Abbey Place, between Indianapolis Road and Interstate 65.

About 50 people attended the Tuesday meeting to talk about their concerns, which included overcrowding in Bartholomew Consolidated schools, and the city’s inability to support water, sewer and fire department infrastructure services to the area.

The developer told councilmen that representatives will be back with information from schools, utilities and first responders at the June 6 meeting.
