Deputies arrest man found sleeping in a vehicle

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Hope man after finding him apparently asleep in his vehicle.

Deputy Dane Duke was sent to the 700 block of Jonesville Road at 12:21 a.m. Thursday to check on Shawn S. Sanford, 40, 171 Schaefer Drive, Hope, deputies said.

While checking Sanford, Duke learned Sanford was wanted on an out-of-county arrest warrant, deputies said. Duke found several syringes and a digital scale in Sanford’s vehicle, deputies said.

A plastic bag with a crystal substance, believed to be methamphetamine, and a plastic bag containing a green leafy substance, believed to be marijuana, were also found on Sanford, deputies said.

Sanford is being held without bond on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a legend drug injection device, trafficking with an inmate, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and a Jennings County warrant, deputies said.
