Roger Ray Beckett, 79, of Greensburg, passed away at 1:43 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at his residence.

He was born July 12, 1937, in Brookville, the son of Charles and Ethel (Roberts) Beckett. He was raised in Hartsville and graduated from Hope High School in 1957. He has been a Decatur County resident since 1959. He retired in 2000, having worked as a truck driver and mechanic for Stadler Packaging Company and Dolly Madison. Roger was a charter member of Loyal Order of Moose in Greensburg, American Legion Post #129 in Greensburg and a past president of Decatur County Conservation Club. He enjoyed being a handyman and being outdoors.

He married Marianna Mayme Wilmer on Sept. 5, 1959, in Greensburg and she preceded him in death on Nov. 3, 2016.

He is survived by his daughters, Jane (Allen) Dance, Mary “Jody” (Carl) Faris and Patty (Ernie) Stephens, all of Greensburg; sons, David Beckett of Champagne, Illinois and Eddie (Holly) Beckett of Greensburg; sister, Iris Czap of Edinburgh; brothers, Arnold (Janet) Beckett of Hartsville and Harold (Marie) Beckett of Greensburg; sister-in-law, Sandra Beckett of Georgetown; brother-in-law, Joe Love of Hartsville; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Olas and Arthur Beckett; sisters, Shirley Loper and Neosha Love; and a brother-in-law, Kenny Loper.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with the Rev. Steve Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Union Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 3 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
