Athletes of the Week – June 1

MALE

Coleman Tennyson, Columbus North senior track athlete

Tennyson finished second in the shot put in the Warren Central Regional with a throw of 54 feet, 8 1/2 inches to qualify for Friday’s Boys Track and Field State Finals.

His performance last week: “It was pretty good I wish I could have snuck in there and got first, but there was good competition, and I made it to state, so I’m pretty happy about that.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I have routines every week. We do about 15 to 20 full throws every practice, and before the meet, we’ll cut that down to 10 and make sure every throw is a competition-based throw.”

Favorite drink: “Arizona sweet tea”

Favorite food: “Steak”

Favorite book: “To Kill a Mockingbird”

Favorite class: “Math”

Role model: “Ray Lewis”

Best advice: “If you fail, fail at 100 percent.”

Athletics goal: “When I get to Tiffin, I hope to be the GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) Freshman of the Year (in football).”

If you could travel anywhere: “Dubai. It’s a beautiful city with a lot of fast cars and a lot of money.”

FEMALE

Hailey Lange, Hauser senior softball player

Lange had two triples in Saturday’s 11-1 win against Oldenburg Academy in the Rising Sun Sectional final. Earlier in the week, she went 2 for 3 with a double and four RBIs in a 10-0 semifinal win against South Decatur.

Her performance last week: “I knew that we were going to be facing better teams, so I pushed myself more in practice and went up to Center Grove to get in hitting lessons.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “Before each game, I usually just pray and hang out with my team, and we listed to music and get pumped up.”

Favorite drink: “Sweet tea”

Favorite food: “Mexican”

Favorite book: “’Small Great Things’ by Jodi Picoult”

Favorite class: “Advance PE”

Role model: “My mom (Shelley Lange)”

Best advice: “To always stay positive and keep smiling.”

Athletics goal: “To push myself to the best of my ability and give it everything I have every game.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Probably Hawaii, because I like the warm weather and it’s pretty.”
