Matt Vorndran, Columbus North senior golfer

Vorndran fired a 1-over-par 71 to win medalist honors and lead the Bull Dogs to the Greensburg Sectional title.

His performance last week: “I started out a little bit slow, but I kept trusting my swing and staying focused, and I finished strong.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I pray before every match, and I work on my short game a lot and just try to be mentally prepared.”

Favorite drink: “Milk”

Favorite food: “Mexican”

Favorite book: “The Inheritance Series”

Favorite class: “Advanced Physics”

Role model: “My dad (Steve Vorndran)”

Best advice: “Try your hardest in everything that you do.”

Athletics goal: “To make it to state individually and as a team and to play at a high level in college golf.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Germany, because I have cousins and family over there, and they have good food and lots of things to do.”

Hailley Peters, Trinity Luthran senior track athlete

Peters cleared 5 feet, 4 inches, to finish fifth in the high jump at the Girls Track and Field State Finals.

Her performance last week: “I was pretty proud. It’s pretty tough competition, and the heat was getting to a lot of us. But 5-4 is not bad.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I try to stay as relaxed as possible and not get too nervous and just stay calm.”

Favorite drink: “Apple juice”

Favorite food: “Fruit”

Favorite book: “The Book Thief”

Favorite class: “Calculus”

Role model: “I look up to my parents (Tony and Melanie Peters) a lot. They’re super supportive in everything I do with their protection and guidance.”

Best advice: “The best you can do is the best you can do. No one expects anything more out of you than what you can do, so all you can do is go out and compete to the best of your ability.”

Athletics goal: “I may walk on at Ball State.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Indonesia, because I want to climb a volcano.”
